What are Case Studies?

Case studies are stories that show how you handled projects. They detail your processes, your approach, how you problem solve, how you design, how you work with contrasts, etc.

How many case studies should we have? The priority is always quality and variety. Aim for maybe 3 at the very least, but don’t overthink it.

Always write out your case studies in a google doc first! It’s much easier to change/edit content when it’s written out a doc and not on your portfolio site. Add it to your portfolio at the end when you’re 100% confident in your writing.

How to Title Case Studies

The title should be a mini-story and get the reader to ask “How?” Give your users the context of the project, grab their attention, and make them want to learn more about what you accomplished. Instead of saying just the company name, instead say what you ACCOMPLISHED.

Context

Context connects your story to your reader. Remember, your first audience isn’t UX designers—it’s recruiters and hiring managers who might not know your space at all.

Example

“During COVID-19, tele-health visits exploded. Our team at HealthX rebuilt patient onboarding to meet new HIPAA rules.”
